More than 90 high school musicians will play with and take lessons from Tennessee Tech University faculty during the 17th annual Southeast Chamber Music Institute held from May 29 to June 3.

Throughout the week, young instrumentalists will rehearse together in chamber groups, including string quartets, brass quintets, wind quintets and a jazz combo. TTU string, piano, wind and percussion faculty will meet one on one with the students for coaching and lessons. Students will also learn about composition with the university’s composer-in-residence, Greg Danner.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to play in small groups with only one person per part, an experience that they don’t often get in their high school music programs,” Institute Director Joshua Hauser said.

The Summer Evenings of Chamber Music concert series is also offered as part of the program. There will be performances by the Cumberland Quintet, the Brass Arts Quintet, Faculty Strings and the Faculty Jazz Combo. All performances are free and open to the public and begin at 7:30 p.m. in Wattenbarger Auditorium of the Bryan Fine Arts Building.
