Spring enrollment sets new TTU record

Tennessee Tech University student enrollment for the Spring 2006 semester has set an all-time high record. Compared to last year, enrollment in the spring semester increased by 1.5%, up 122 students.

The news follows a record high fall semester TTU enrollment of 9,313 students reported last August.

"This record reflects a lot of hard work and increased efforts to serve our students," said Rebecca Tolbert, TTU's associate vice president of Enrollment Management and Academic Affairs. "We have a slight increase in new freshman enrollment over last year, but we're optimistic that these numbers also indicate our retention rate is up, too."

TTU headcount enrollment this semester totals 8,265, compared to 8,143 for the same time last year. Prior to this year, the largest spring enrollment of the past decade came in 2003.

"We believe the enhanced retention efforts begun last year in the academic departments and Student Affairs to help students with lottery scholarships keep their scholarships have had an impact on our numbers," Tolbert added.

TTU academic programs recording the largest enrollment increases in recent years include the College of Education, the College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Interdisciplinary Studies.
