Storyteller Renard Harris to give presentation at Wesley Arena Theatre on Sept. 29

Renard Harris, a storyteller with a blues harp, will give a presentation at 6 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 29, in the Wesley Arena Theatre, near the campus of Tennessee Tech University.

TTU Center Stage event, Harris’s original stories are delivered with a rhythmic cadence, the simplicity of a front porch tale and the emotion of a country blues song.

An assistant professor in the School of Education at the College of Charleston, Harris’s areas of research include personal narratives, storytelling and slave plantations of the Low Country region, and his accomplishments are as varied as his intellectual interests.

His stories — which have been described as entertaining, inspirational and thought provoking — stem from his life as an African-American. He enjoys creating stories that inspire, motivate and embrace the beauty of those who are marginalized.

He believes stories that exemplify these characteristics capture the essence of the Blues and contain elements that celebrate unity and diversity.

The Wesley Arena Theatre is located adjacent to TTU’s campus, at 271 E. Ninth Street.

The event is free and open to the public.
