Swing dance for Genesis House set for March 5Get ready to jump, jive and wail for a good cause.
Tennessee Tech University’s Music Therapy Student Organization is hosting a swing dance from 7 to 10 p.m. on Friday, March 5, in the Roaden University Center’s Multipurpose Room, and proceeds will benefit the local domestic and sexual violence shelter Genesis House.
“We organized this event intending not only to promote music therapy, but also to help out a good cause in the community,” said Megan O’Connor, president of TTU’s MTSO. “We’ve done music therapy projects for Genesis House in the past, so we were familiar with some of the needs of the organization.”
The dance will also showcase music by some of the Upper Cumberland area’s most notable jazz bands, including those from Crossville and Cookeville High Schools and TTU’s own Troubadours Jazz Band.
Free dance lessons will be offered from 6 to 7 p.m. and door prizes will be given throughout the event.
Admission is $8 per person or $15 per couple in advance and $9 per person or $18 per couple at the door.
For reservations or more information, call TTU’s Music and Art Department at 931/372-3161.
