Tennessee Tech Tuba Ensemble sets performance schedule

thumb TTTE_2011-2012The musicians of the Tennessee Tech University Tuba Ensemble are scheduled to perform five concerts in middle Tennessee and Alabama in upcoming weeks.

The first performance will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, at TTU’s Wattenbarger Auditorium in the Bryan Fine Arts building.

They will go to Wilson Central High School for a concert at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, in Lebanon and perform again at 2:20 p.m. the same day at Seigel High School in Murfreesboro.

At 12:30 p.m. Thursday, April 12, the group will play at Tullahoma High School. At 7 p.m. that evening they will appear at the Rhett Fine Arts Center in Huntsville, Ala.

All of the performances are free and open to the public.

The upcoming performances will feature several compositions in a variety of styles, ranging from Baroque to jazz, a piece composed for the ensemble by TTU professor Greg Danner and the “William Tell Overture,” the theme to the TV show “The Lone Ranger.”

The 25-member ensemble has recorded 25 different projects and has appeared at Carnegie Hall seven times. It was the subject of the PBS documentary “TUBA U: Basso Profundo,” and a book, “The Tennessee Tech Tuba Ensemble and R. Winston Morris: A 40th Anniversary Retrospective.”
