Toshiko Carnal BFA exhibition Sense of Nature at Craft Center April 20-23
Office of Communications & Marketing
Carnal's exhibit focuses on displaying flower arrangements in vessels that display the flowers and plants in near-natural living conditions. The flower arrangements are unlike the typical symmetrical flower arrangements Westerners and Europeans are accustomed to.
She will display her works in three different ways in order to let viewers understand this approach to displaying and arranging flowers and plants.
First, she will have photographs showing ways of arranging flowers and plants in different vessels. Second, a variety of vessels will be displayed, some of them with asymmetrical flower arrangements that are associated with Ikebana, a Japanese art of flower arrangement. Third will be an installation of a formalized mountain path composted of ceramic rocks, pinecones, acorns and tree branches arranged along with a background using bamboo and shrubs.
Gallery hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., daily.
The Appalachian Center for Craft is located approximately six miles from Interstate 40 at Exit 273 (Smithville/McMinnville). To get there, travel south on Highway 56 and turn left immediately after crossing Hurricane Bridge.
