Trish Ramsay metal exhibit at Craft Center Oct. 5 — Nov. 9A metal exhibit by Trish Ramsay, entitled The Cultivation of Chance: New Work by Trish Ramsay, will be featured in Gallery Two of the Appalachian Center for Craft, a satellite campus of Tennessee Tech University, from Oct. 5 through Nov. 9. Ramsay’s new work has become increasingly concerned with events taking place upon a surface or within a shallow space. Wall installations are derived from her drawings (blind contours of observed landscape, doodles and geometric drawing exercises). Ramsay’s current body of work consists of steel wire, rayon and wool. She teaches metalsmithing at Columbus State University in Columbus, Ga.
Dan Worthington will present a senior saxophone recital on Sunday, Oct. 7, at 2 p.m.
There will be a Wind Ensemble concert on Tuesday, Oct. 9, at 7:30 p.m.
The music faculty will perform chamber music of Leroy Osmon — including the world premiere of Osmon’s major new composition Zeraim — on Wednesday, Oct. 10, at 7:30 p.m.
Other campus events
Woody Winfree will present the “I Am Beautiful” program at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 9, in the Multipurpose Room of the Roaden University Center. A Center Stage event, her presentation is free and open to the public. The purpose of the program is to expose male and female audiences to the pervasive damaging media myths that affect self-esteem. Winfree created the program to share concrete tools for building a more solid base from which to explore one’s unique purpose and value in life.
The Appalachian Center for Crafts is located six miles off Hwy. 56 (Interstate 40, Exit 273) near Smithville. Hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. The Joan Derryberry Art Gallery is located on the first floor of the University Center and is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
