Enrollment climbed to a record high for the 11th straight year at Tennessee Tech University this fall, topping 11,700.

With a headcount of 11,768 students, Tennessee Tech also celebrated the largest first-time freshman class, the largest transfer student count and the largest ever undergraduate enrollment

"The university's record enrollment is once again marked by strong, consistent growth in undergraduate students, including a 3 percent increase in the freshman class and a 9 percent increase in new transfer students," said Bobby Hodum, TTU's executive director of enrollment management. "This continues a six-year trend that has seen the university add more than 2,600 undergraduate students."

TTU posted an enrollment increase of 2 percent, higher than the 1.2 percent average enrollment growth at all Tennessee Board of Regents universities.

This year's freshman class totaled 1,968. Undergraduate enrollment totaled 9,920. And more than 800 students chose to transfer to TTU for the fall semester.

"This multi-year trend of increasing traditional, full-time undergraduate students places the university in a better financial position, but it also has a very positive economic impact on our community," said Hodum.

Another positive note for the university came in the 1.8 percent increase in the full-time equivalent number of 9,542. FTE is a method of counting groups of part-time students so that the number of hours they are taking represents a full-time class load.

TTU's College of Engineering posted the largest overall enrollment increase compared to last year, up some 130 students.

"We are thrilled that more students than ever before are choosing Tennessee Tech, " said President Bob Bell, who has seen record fall enrollment during each of his years as president. "Our goal is to serve all of these students so that they graduate with a degree from this university and are well-prepared for the future."
