TTU alumnus Atkins receives two Academy of Country Music nominations

As his single, "Watching You," hovers around the top of the country music charts, all eyes are on Tennessee Tech University alumnus Rodney Atkins after he received two Academy of Country Music nominations for Best New Male Vocalist and Best Song.

Atkins' current single opened 2007 with five straight weeks at No. 1, but he's being recognized by the ACM for his chart-topping single, "If You're Going Through Hell" (Before the Devil Even Knows). It also was awarded Song of the Year honors at SESAC's annual country music awards ceremony.

"If You're Going Through Hell" has made Atkins, a Baxter native, one of country music's breakout acts of 2006. The single's initial chart showing helped the album "If You're Going Through Hell" hit No. 1 on the Billboard country album chart and No. 3 on the Top 200 chart of albums from all genres the week it was released.
