TTU alumnus Rodney Atkins wins first Academy of Country Music award

Tennessee Tech University alumnus Rodney Atkins is country music's Top New Male Vocalist, as crowned by the Academy of Country Music.

After winning the award, Atkins performed "These Are My People," his latest release from his album, "If You're Going Through Hell." The album, which hit number one on the country chart, has made Atkins, a Baxter resident, one of country music's breakout acts of 2006. His previous single from the album, "Watching You," was also a success.

Atkins also received an ACM nomination for Best Song for his chart-topping single, "If You're Going Through Hell" (Before the Devil Even Knows). It also was awarded Song of the Year honors at SESAC's annual country music awards ceremony.
