TTU arts roundup: Architectural oil painting exhibit to open at Derryberry Gallery

thumb_McDonaldTodd McDonaldNationally known oil painter Todd McDonald brings his exhibit to Tennessee Tech University's Joan Derryberry Art Gallery Nov. 1-30.

The Center Stage event is open to the public and admission is free.  TTU will host a gallery talk with the artist at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30, in the gallery.

McDonald is an image-maker who uses oil as a medium to combine art and architecture.

"My current body of work mutated out of an investigation of how building construction related to image construction," McDonald said.  "During the course of my research I became increasingly aware of how large-scale contemporary architectural structures function as totemic icons for corporate growth."

thumb_McDonald_Above_the_CeilingMcDonald is currently an assistant professor of painting at Clemson University.  He has an involved studio practice and travels across the country displaying his art.

"My goal is that the viewer can find a familiar road into each painting and take and unfamiliar road out," McDonald said.
