TTU arts roundup: Festival of voices concert 300 strong

Seven high school choirs from around the state will perform alongside the Tech Chorale for the Friday, Sept. 17, Festival of Voices concert.

The high school choirs will attend a clinic at Tennessee Tech University with Sandra Snow, associate professor of music education and choral conducting at Michigan State University, during the day. Then, the choirs will join forces 300 voices strong for a 7 p.m. concert in Wattenbarger Auditorium in the Bryan Fine Arts Building.

"The concert features a performance by each visiting choir, a performance by the Tech Chorale, and will end with a finale of two pieces performed by the joint choir of high school and college students combined. I strongly urge people to come and watch this unique experience," said Craig Zamer, director of choral activities at TTU.

This is the second year the Festival of Voices has been presented at Tennessee Tech. It is free and open to the public.

  • Photographic exhibit by Hans Gindlesberger, "I'm in the Wrong Film," continues through Sept. 28. Gallery talk and reception is 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28. This is a Center Stage event.

TTU Music

  • Recital of music student award winners, 3:30 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 19.
  • Joshua Hauser presents his faculty trombone recital 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, Wattenbarger Auditorium.
  • Associate professor of violin Wei Tsun Chang presents composer Charles Ruggiero and Atlantic Ensemble 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 27, in Wattenbarger Auditorium.

The Appalachian Center for Craft is located six miles off Highway 56 (Interstate 40, Exit 273) near Smithville. Hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. daily. The Joan Derryberry Art Gallery is located on the first floor of the Roaden University Center and is open to the public from 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
