TTU arts roundup: Fiber artist reception at Derryberry gallery

thumb_clare_murray_adams_2Clare Murray AdamsOhio-based fiber artist Clare Murray Adams' exhibit continues at the Joan Derryberry Art Gallery through Oct. 29, and a reception with the artist is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 28.

Adams is professor of visual art at Malone University in Canton, Ohio, where she teaches fiber art, printmaking and 3D design. She is also curator of exhibits for the university.

Throughout the past 10 years, Adams has worked with clothing imagery – most often the dress – as the reference point for addressing gender and family issues, personal growth and the emotional qualities associated with these concepts.

"She was chosen based on quality and type of medium," said Janis Nunnally, coordinator for the Joan Derryberry Art Gallery. "We always look for a variety of media for our seasons."

Adams' work has been on display throughout the United States, Canada, the Netherlands and Japan. She began her art career by making art quilts and then moved into using different types of media in one art-piece.

The Joan Derryberry Art Gallery is located on the first floor of the Roaden University Center and is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
