TTU arts roundup for March 30: Comedian to perform at TTU
Comedian Dean Obeidallah combats stereotypes about Arab-American culture with a mixture of comedy and life experience.
He is set to perform at Tennessee Tech University at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 6, in the Multi-Purpose Room of the Roaden University Center, 1000 N. Dixie Ave, Cookeville.
"Dean's comedy bridges the gap of cultural misunderstanding between the Arab-American community and the rest of the country," said Debbie Barnard, assistant professor of French. "I think that Dean's routine is a great way to take some the tension off of topics which need to be addressed.”
He has appeared on numerous national and international television shows, including Comedy Central’s “Axis of Evil Comedy,” NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” and “Late Night with Conan O’Brien,” as well as news shows like PBS’ “Newshour with Jim Lehrer,” CNN’s “American Morning” and “Wolf Blitzer’s Reports.” He has been featured in several newspapers and publications like Time magazine, The New York Times and Newsweek, and writes a blog for The Huffington Post.
This Center Stage event is free and open to the public.
