TTU arts roundup for March 9: TTU Flute Day March 20

TTU Flute Day will take place, Saturday, March 20, beginning with registration at 8:30 a.m. and ending with finale concert at 4:15 p.m. Guest flutist is Beth Chandler, associate professor of flute at James Madison University in Virginia. All events in Bryan Fine Arts Building, 1150 N. Dixie Ave. Chandler will present a recital at 7:30 p.m., Friday, March 19 in Wattenbarger Auditorium of the Bryan Fine Arts Building.

Appalachian Center for Craft

  • The Bachelor of Fine Arts Juried Exhibition will continue until Monday, March 29, in Gallery One.
  • 2010 Celebration of Craft, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, April 10. Admission is free. Experience craft demonstrations and hands-on craft projects for children. Live music.
  • The Artist in Residence Annual Exhibition, consisting of six current artists in residence, will be shown through April 12 in Gallery Two.

Center Stage

  • Rowandan genocide survivor Immaculée Ilibagiza brings her story of faith to campus 7 p.m. March 16 in the Derryberry Hall Auditorium.
  • Ron Barron, principal trombonist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra from 1975 until 2008, public recital, 7:30 p.m., March 28, Wattenbarger Auditorium

Joan Derryberry Art Gallery

  • Jack Girard’s collage and mixed works will show until Saturday, March 20.
  • Sculptor Jennifer Torres displays her interesting interpretation of watercraft March 22 through April 9. Gallery talk 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 23.
  • Sami Lange presents her printmaking exhibit April 12 through May 7. Gallery talk 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 13.

The Appalachian Center for Craft is located six miles off Highway 56 (Interstate 40, Exit 273) near Smithville. Hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. daily. The Joan Derryberry Art Gallery is located on the first floor of the Roaden University Center and is open to the public from 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
