TTU arts roundup: The Vespers to play at Backdoor Playhouse
The Nashville-based folk band The Vespers is coming to Tennessee Tech’s Backdoor Playhouse at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26.
The Vespers features sisters Callie and Phoebe Cryar, brothers Taylor and Bruno Jones. They released a debut album, “Tell Your Mama,” in the spring of 2010 and began a nationwide tour last year.
The concert also features musical guests Kory Wheeler and Handsome & Gretyl.
Wheeler presents music under the pop genre, while Handsome & Gretyl present music from a hybrid of the pop and folk genres.
This Center Stage concert is free.

Appalachian Center for Craft
- Harlan Butt’s “National Park Series,” an enamel on metal series, continues in Gallery One until Friday, Feb. 17.
- Nathan Hansen’s “Vestiges,” a wooden machine installation, continues in Gallery Two until Friday, March 2.

- The Oak Ridge Chamber Players, along with Dan Allcott, have a faculty recital at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Jan. 23.
- The Walton Façade Concert is at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 26.
- Idalynn Besser’s viola faculty recital is at 4 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 29.
The Appalachian Center for Craft is located six miles off Highway 56 (Interstate 40, Exit 273) near Smithville. Hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. daily. The Joan Derryberry Art Gallery is located on the first floor of the Roaden University Center and is open to the public from 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
