TTU Brass Arts Quintet holds concert Feb. 9
The program includes pieces by Laurence Bitensky, Johann Sebastian Bach, Dmitri Shostakovich, Michael Davis, James Pankow and Robert Lamm. It will begin with earlier pieces by Bach and Shostakovich and move forward to the present day.
“Moving forward in time, we will perform the regional premiere of ‘For Then and Now’ by Bitensky,” said Joshua Hauser, TTU trombone professor and quintet leader. “‘For Then and Now’ has two distinct voices, one being a slow, free section that builds in intensity to the other voice, a faster, funk-derived second theme.”
“This should be a fun and varied performance everyone can enjoy,” he said.
The quintet will continue the performance with “Gotham” by Davis, a jazz-tinged piece. The concert will conclude with three tunes by the band Chicago, “Make Me Smile,” “Searchin’ So Long,” and “25 or 6 to 4,” arranged for the quintet by horn player Greg Danner.
The quintet also includes Charles Decker and Chris McCormick on trumpet and Winston Morris on tuba.
