TTU brings "The Vagina Monologues" back to campus to raise sexual violence awareness

The pursuit for the end of violence against women and girls will come to Cookeville in the form of Eve Ensler’s Obie Award-winning production “The Vagina Monologues.”

Three performances of the play are scheduled at TTU’s Backdoor Playhouse on Feb. 10, 12, and 14, at 8 p.m. each night. The play is part of the annual V-Day College Campaign that aims to raise sexual violence awareness, and TTU is one of many campuses across the country participating in the event.

The cast includes TTU’s Casey Fox, Carrie Foley, Misty Brown and Emily Stefanik, along with area actresses Kathy Gilpatrick, Dana Grantham, Beth Thompson and Katie Davis and is directed by Mark H. Creter.

Through performances of the play and other events on or around Valentine’s Day, funds are raised and donated to grassroots organizations working to stop various forms of sexual violence, including rape, battery, incest, female genital mutilation and sexual slavery.

In the seven years since the movement first began, more than $25 million has been raised nationwide.

Tickets for the TTU production of “The Vagina Monologues” are $10 each for general admission and $6 each for students.
Proceeds from the show will be donated to the Tennessee Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence.
