Tennessee Tech University’s all-girl and co-ed cheerleading squads will attend the Universal Cheerleading Association Collegiate National Championships on Jan. 16 and 17.

This meet is the largest and most respected collegiate national cheerleading competition in the world. Held in Orlando, Fla., at Walt Disney World, it will be televised on ESPN in February.

“Teams must qualify for this event by video entry and many teams are turned away,” said coach Robin Burroughs. “Just to qualify for this event is a huge honor.”

Teams are placed in divisions by their football team division so TTU is Division 1 co-ed and Division 1 all-girl.

TTU’s all-girl cheer squad made the semi-finals with its entry video, and TTU’s co-ed squad made the finals with its entry video. Both teams will compete against teams including Morehead University, Western Kentucky University and Texas State University.

These are the first cheerleading squads in TTU history to qualify for and attend this event.

“The squads would like to thank David Mullinax, Suzann Hensley, Audrey Cody and the many other TTU staff members for all of their help this year in making this possible,” said Burroughs.

The all-girl squad is made up of Brittney Aiello, Jillian Boreing, Alyson Burks, Brittany Chappell, Ann Clark, Amber Cockrill, Tess Hanson, Tracie Hicks, Gabrielle McCullom, Ashley Mitchell, Allison Perkins, Jessica Rollins, Erika Seabolt, Kimberly Steele, Heather Wagner and Chandler Witt.

The co-ed squad members include Wesley Brewer, Ethan Campbell, Stephen Davis, Emily Easterling, Kahla Evans, Ashley Farris, Chelsea Harris, John Honeycutt, Jordan Parks, Loren Pierce, Brandon Plunk, Daniel Pratt, Scott Stanford, Jim Weakley, and Travis Wright.
