TTU College of Business students complete HR project for Putnam County Schools

A group of 15 Tennessee Tech University College of Business students spent this semester rewriting job descriptions for the Putnam County school system, and they saved the system a great deal of money along the way.

The TTU Chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management has been working with the school system since late September to rewrite the system's job descriptions, some of which had never been updated.

"This was an enormous task that would have cost the system thousands of dollars to do themselves," said Tom Timmerman, TTU professor of business management and faculty advisor for the chapter.

Hazel Cooper, the chapter's president, said about 15 members of her group worked on the project by first interviewing supervisors and then drafting the descriptions.

"It was a lot of work but also a lot of fun," Cooper said.

The finished project will be presented to Putnam County schools Human Resources Director Lanny Knight on Friday, Dec. 10.
