Flags (3’X5’), home banners (27” X 40”) and wooden banner poles are in stock and available for sale on the TTU campus through the Alumni Relations Office in the Jere Whitson building or online at the TTU Marketplace web site located at http://mkt.tntech.edu/marketplace/web.
“We only have a limited number available, and the prices are very affordable,” said Tracey Duncan, Alumni Relations director. “I expect we’ll be selling them quickly.”
Prices range from $29.95 for the flag to $23.95 for the home banner and $12.95 for the five-foot banner pole and mounting hardware. Purchases made online will have shipping charges added.
The 3’X5’ flag features a reinforced side seam and grommets so it can be flown on any standard flag pole. The home banner features a vertical version of the flag and can be hung on any standard banner pole.
The flag, which was designed by TTU First Lady Gloria Bell in 2003, is the first official flag created for the university. The Alumni Office is coordinating sales to help raise funds for student programs. The Alumni Office is the sole source for official TTU flags and banners.
“It was such an honor to become a part of Tennessee Tech history with this flag,” said Bell. “I wanted to be sure any profits or proceeds from the sale of our flag would go to help the students for whom it was created.”
Students were the first to see the flag unveiled at a pep rally. It was later introduced to alumni, faculty, staff and friends during Homecoming festivities.
The flag’s three elements — the golden eagle, the bold pillar, and the purple base — represent the historic and idyllic characteristics of the university, according to Bell.
The eagle depicts the pride, honor, strength and spirit of the TTU students, faculty and staff. The gold column represents the pillar of knowledge, intellect and experience, all qualities of TTU’s prestigious academic reputation. And the purple background represents a strong foundation of character, commitment and endurance indicative of the university’s culture.
