TTU incoming freshman Cassie Putman receives TBR's Otis L. Floyd Scholarship

Cassie Putman, incoming Tennessee Tech University freshman from Lincoln County, recently received the Tennessee Board of Regents Otis L. Floyd Scholarship.

The award is given to one Tennessee student who demonstrates outstanding academic performance and public service in high school. This year, each of the four-year TBR institutions was eligible to nominate one member of its 2008 entering freshman class to be considered for this award.

TTU named 50 finalists who were given the opportunity to submit a portfolio that showed their involvement in leadership and community activities and reflected their creative potential. Along with a portfolio, the finalists submitted an essay addressing their personal and professional aspirations.

Thirty-one students submitted this information, and a committee selected Putman as the TTU nominee.

Putman, a 2008 Lincoln County High School graduate, is a chemical engineering student at TTU. She was valedictorian of her class, voted "Most Likely to Succeed" and a National Merit Finalist.
