thumb_2010_Tuba_EnsembleIt's time to bring out the big guns in the Department of Music at Tennessee Tech University for the annual OCTUBAFEST celebration.

The 35th annual TTU OCTUBAFEST celebration includes a series of 15 concerts presented by the Tennessee Tech Tuba Ensemble. Events kick off Saturday, Oct. 23, in the Wattenbarger Auditorium of the Bryan Fine Arts Building and run through Monday, Nov. 1.

Highlights of this year's OCTUBAFEST concert series include a 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27, performance by the internationally acclaimed Tennessee Tech Tuba Ensemble under the direction of R. Winston Morris, who founded the group in 1967. The ensemble will feature compositions and arrangements by TTU music graduate Glenn Martin, who currently teaches at Cumberland University in Lebanon and was formerly at Tennessee State University in Nashville.

Most of Martin's music is in the jazz style, but the ensemble also will feature some of his original work and classical transcriptions. A number of student soloists will be featured as will Joshua Hauser, TTU professor of trombone, who will close the show as guest soloist on two of Martin's jazz compositions.

In addition to all the tuba/euphonium student recitals, one other special performance will be offered by recent TTU graduate Adam Goad on euphonium. Gode is currently pursuing graduate studies at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Ky. Goad's guest euphonium recital will be on Saturday, Oct. 30, at 7 p.m.
