TTU to host Chemistry Olympiad

Tennessee Tech University will serve as host to dozens of outstanding high school chemistry students March 5 for the 22nd annual Chemistry Olympiad.

The competition, sponsored by the Nashville Section of the American Chemical Society and TTU’s chemistry department, attracts students from throughout 27 counties in Middle Tennessee and south-central Kentucky.

“Large city schools like Hillsboro and smaller rural ones like Cornersville have competed side by side,” said David J. Crouse, associate professor of chemistry at TTU.

Ten students from this regional event will be selected for the National Chemistry Olympiad exam April 22-26. From there, the top 20 scorers nationwide are invited to a study camp June 9-24 in preparation for possible participation in the international competition to be held in Tokyo July 19-28.
