TTU to host hundreds of math teachers for conference this weekend

Hundreds of math teachers will visit Tennessee Tech Friday and Saturday for the annual meeting of the Tennessee Math Teachers Association.

During the two-day event, elementary, middle, high school and post-secondary math educators will have access to nearly 100 sessions on topics ranging from writing in the math curriculum to exploration of the Mayan calendar and the significance of the year 2012. About 500 attendees are expected.

Sessions begin at 4 p.m. Friday, with registration and check-in beginning at 2:30 p.m. in the rotunda of TTU’s Nursing and Health Services building at 10 W. 7th St.

Paul Edelman, professor of mathematics and law at Vanderbilt University, will deliver the keynote address at a banquet Friday night honoring the winners of TMTA high school math contests. Edelman’s work has included consultation to the County Music Association, advising the CMA on election methods for awards.
