Tennessee Tech University trumpet professor Charles Decker will give a recital with Joy Rachor, pianist and music director at Cumberland Presbyterian Church, at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, in Wattenbarger Auditorium.
TTU horn professor Jeremy Hansen and trombone professor Joshua Hauser will join Decker for a brass trio performance of works by French composer Francis Poulenc.
Decker and Rachor will feature solo works by French and Russian composers from the early 20th century, a time when expressive interpretation was the predominant musical style.
“It is a pleasure to share the stage with these exceptional musicians,” Decker said. “Audiences will enjoy the lush harmonies, expressive lyricism and range of compositional treatments that make this virtuosic music so exciting.”
The program includes a special arrangement of the familiar melody “Mexican Hat Dance” by the famous trumpet soloist and composer Rafael Mendez.
This recital continues the yearlong TTU Trumpet Festival concert series featuring faculty and students in solo and ensemble performances.
Wattenbarger Auditorium is in the Bryan Fine Arts building at 1150 N. Dixie Ave. The concert is free and open to the public.
