TTU Young Artist Piano Competition winners announced

thumb_Davis.WangJoshua Davis of Cookeville and Kevin Wang of Nashville were prize winners at the recent TTU Young Artist Piano Competition.A total of 10 high school pianists from Tennessee schools competed in the Oct. 9 Tennessee Tech University Young Artist Piano Competition.

The contest, now in its third year, attracts gifted high school piano players from throughout the state.

"The artistic and technical abilities demonstrated by these students were superb," said Catherine Godes, professor of piano studies at TTU and coordinator of the event.

Adjudicator Jackson Henry, a former student of Herman and Catherine Godes, had a difficult decision to make in selecting the two winners.

The winner of the $1,000 Herman Godes Award was Kevin Wang of Nashville, a student of Roland Schneller at the Blair School of Music at Vanderbilt University. The winner of the $500 SK Ballal Award was Joshua Davis of Cookeville, a student of Catherine Godes.
