TTU's All-Girl Cheer Squad wins nationals, Co-ed and Dance Team place highTennessee Tech University's All-Girl Cheerleading Squad reigns as national champion after winning the first national competition in which it competed as an all-girl team.
TTU's squad scored higher than four other teams in the division. The all-girl squad holds the title of Open Medium Collegiate National Champion for 2008.
"This squad has been practicing very hard since the summer months to put together a two-an- a-half minute routine that showcases their skills in cheer, dance, tumbling and stunting," said Coach Robin Burroughs.
Tennessee Tech's Co-ed Cheerleading Squad finished 1 st runner up in the small co-ed collegiate division, scoring higher than seven other teams in their division.
Each member of the all-girl squad received a gold medal and a championship T-shirt. The university received a championship banner and championship trophy now displayed in the Tennessee Tech Fitness Center. The TTU Co-ed Cheerleading squad received a team trophy that will also be displayed.
The Tennessee Tech University Golden Girls Dance Team finished 3rd place at the World's Largest Cheer and Dance Competition in the world, the Cheersport Open Collegiate Dance Nationals held recently in Atlanta, Ga.
This is the first time that the TTU Dance Team has attended a nationals competition. They performed a two-minute-15-second hip hop routine that they worked on several months prior to this competition. Each team member received a medal, and the team received a trophy.

"We would also like to thank Tennessee Tech University and especially David Mullinax, Suzann Hensley, Mark Wilson, Misty Pearson and many members of the Fitness Center staff for their support and help this year."
