TTU’s Brass Arts Quintet celebrates 50 years Tuesday
The quintet will celebrate its anniversary with a concert and CD release at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, in Wattenbarger Auditorium. The concert and CD, “Suites and Treats,” feature works from the group’s repertoire of the past 50 years.
The concert will include works from past CDs and the new one, including a brass repertoire staple, pieces of a suite of Renaissance dances by Tylman Susato; a new transcription of the preamble to Glazounov’s 1894 “Scenes de Ballet” by TTU professor and quintet member Charles Decker; and a new piece by Roger May, “The Agents,” which is reminiscent of spy movies from the 1970s. TTU saxophone professor Phil Barham will be featured as a guest soloist for Fisher Tull’s “Concerto da Camera.”
In addition to Decker, trumpet, the quintet includes TTU professors Chris McCormick, trumpet; Joshua Hauser, trombone; R. Winston Morris, tuba; and Greg Danner, horn.
The concert is free and open to the public. Wattenbarger Auditorium is in the Bryan Fine Arts building on TTU’s campus, 1150 N. Dixie Ave.
