TTU's BusinessMedia Center creates web site for Governor's foundationImagination is one of the skills Tennessee Tech University’s BusinessMedia Center recently used to develop the web site for the Books from Birth Foundation.
Created by Gov. Phil Bredesen in May 2004, the foundation provides resources for statewide implementation of the Imagination Library, which was started in 1996 in Sevier County by Dolly Parton to provide new, no-cost, age-appropriate hardcover books each month to participating families with children from birth to age five.
The TTU BusinessMedia Center-created web site includes tools — such as an interactive state map for locating programs, password-protected toolboxes for county program administrators and an events calendar — that make it easier for counties to start and maintain their own Imagination Libraries.
“It’s very exciting to be at the front of this project and to know you and your team had a hand in seeing it grow,” said Paul Harrison, research specialist at TTU’s BusinessMedia Center.
“This was a special project, and I’m sure the experience and confidence gained here will serve our team in the future,” he said.
TTU BusinessMedia Center Director Kevin Liska agreed, saying he felt the task was a testament to the team’s work ethic and readiness to learn.
In addition to designing the web site, the Center was also instrumental in helping to implement vital branding and marketing concepts for the Books from Birth Foundation.
“In just two months, Kevin and his team produced one of our most valuable communication tools,” said Lady Jackson, foundation president. “The result is a creative, user-friendly web site that is sure to be an invaluable resource to the Tennessee counties seeking to offer their own Imagination Library programs.”
Housed within TTU’s College of Business, the BusinessMedia Center provides entrepreneurs, companies and non-profit organizations with solutions to traditional business challenges through the use of multimedia technology.
