TTU's Craft Center to present Judy Bales exhibit through Nov. 5

A fibers and mixed media exhibit by Judy Bales, titled “Expansion and Compression,” runs from Oct. 1 through Nov. 5 in Gallery Two of the Appalachian Center for Craft, a satellite campus of Tennessee Tech University.

Bales lives in a rural area where she collects the raw materials for her sculptural work.
The materials come from industry and technology, but her inspiration comes from the patterns of movement and growth found in nature.

“I utilize cold, sterile materials to create objects that contain warmth and lyricism,” Bales said.

The blending of industrial materials with organic forms present in her work creates a link between the natural and the man-made world.

Bales has a bachelor’s of fine art and a master’s of fine art from the University of Georgia. Her work has been exhibited extensively across the country.

The Appalachian Center for Craft is located approximately six miles from Interstate 40 at Exit 273. Go south on Hwy. 56 toward Smithville and turn left immediately after crossing Hurricane Bridge. This drive leads to the Craft Center.
