TTU's Craft Center to present Patsy Cox ceramics exhibit through Oct. 29An exhibit of sculptural ceramics by Patsy Cox, titled “Primary Mutations” will be on display from Sept. 27 through Oct. 29 in Gallery One of the Appalachian Center for Craft, a satellite campus of Tennessee Tech University.
Her work focuses on transforming functional forms into sculptural and conceptual realms, often negating the function that initially spurred the work.
Cox derives her inspiration from families and communities, playing with ideas of influence, parent and child figures, and removable parts that make up a whole.
“I try to make well-crafted forms, founded in the tradition of ceramics, one step beyond “functional” and into the realm of ‘sculptural,’” she said.
Cox has a BFA in graphic design and ceramics from Southwestern Missouri State University and an MFA in ceramics from the University of Delaware.
The Appalachian Center for Craft is located approximately six miles from Interstate 40 at Exit 273. Go south toward Smithville on Hwy. 56 and turn left immediately after crossing Hurricane Bridge. This drive leads to the Craft Center.
