TTU’s Oakley STEM Center kicks off fall season with free family events

STEM kids_with_experimentWith the new school year comes fresh family programming at Tennessee Tech University’s Millard Oakley STEM Center.

Families are invited to this fall’s first FAB Friday event, Go With the Flow: Gases & Fluids, Friday, Sept. 27, from 6 – 8 p.m.

The interactive event will offer hands-on learning stations featuring the scientific laws and properties of gases and fluids.

“We’re very much looking forward to our first FAB Friday this season,” said Gail Gentry, outreach coordinator at the Oakley STEM Center. “Our activities will allow families to work with laboratory experiments in heating and cooling of gases, compression and fluid manipulation. The stations are staffed by our dedicated STEM volunteers, including TTU students and members of the community.”

The center’s FAB Friday programs are age-appropriate for 4th through 12th graders and their families. Younger siblings are welcome to participate.

Guests may come and go as their family’s schedule allows. A parent or adult guardian must remain with the children at all times during the FAB Friday event.

Families may make reservations online through the Oakley STEM Center’s MarketPlace store. Admission is free. For more information and to make reservations, visit www.tntech.edu/stem or call (931) 372-6573.

The Oakley STEM Center is located in Ray Morris Hall on the Tennessee Tech campus at 155 W. 7th Street, at the corner of 7th and Stadium Drive in Cookeville.
