TTU's Phil Barham to present a faculty saxophone recital on Tuesday, Nov. 8Tennessee Tech University’s Phil Barham will present a faculty saxophone recital, accompanied by Paul Thurmond on piano, on Tuesday, Nov. 8, at 7:30 p.m. in the Wattenbarger Auditorium of the Bryan Fine Arts Building.
The presentation, which is free and open to the public, will begin with Barham’s rendition of “Blue Caprice” by Victor Morosco, a prominent saxophonist in Los Angeles.
Then, TTU students Jacob Olson, Daniel Worthington, Ben Elsberry and Andrew Allen will join Barham on stage to perform David Kechley’s “Tsunagari.” The title is a Japanese word that means bonds or connections, and the piece is designed for a solo soprano saxophone accompanied by a saxophone quartet.
Another work to be featured in the show is “Lessons of the Sky” by Rodney Rogers, a new age piece for soprano saxophone and piano.
Three short pieces — “Pull” by Brooklyn composer James Matheson, “Milongo del Angel” by Astor Piazzolla and “A L’Espagnole” by Pierre Max Dubois — will conclude the recital.
