Video conference to teach small business owners about exporting to Latin countries

Small business owners will have an opportunity to learn more about exporting to consumers in Latin countries during a satellite video conference coming to Tennessee Technological University on May 18.

The program is part of an unprecedented cooperative effort among Tennessee's state and local agencies and the United States Department of Commerce. Organizers chose Cookeville as one of five Tennessee downlink sites because the state's Department of Agriculture is trying to help rural companies increase their exports.

"The conference will provide up-to-date market intelligence on trade opportunities in Latin America," said Tennessee Tech site coordinator David Kotler. "This information can lead to business-friendly environments and lead to new export contracts with Latin American companies."

The program is a live satellite transmission of a conference being held in Pittsburgh, Penn. Morning speakers will include United States Embassy officials with experience in Brazil, Buenos Aires and Santiago.

The conference will be held in Tennessee Tech's University Center OVC Room. The free event runs from 8:30 a.m. until noon, and no reservations are needed.
