Visiting master drummer joins Abusua for April 13 concertAbusua, Tennessee Tech University’s West African dance and drumming troupe, will be joined by guest artist Abraham Adzenyah for a performance at 7 p.m. on Sunday, April 13, in the Wattenbarger Auditorium of the Bryan Fine Arts Building.
The show is a culmination of Adzenyah’s month-long residency at TTU.
A master drummer of the Fanti people of the southern coastal area of Ghana, he teaches at Wesleyan University in Connecticut, where he also directs the longest running West African music program in the nation. It began in 1970.
During his residency at TTU, Adzenyah worked with the West African dance and drumming classes and Abusua members, appeared in a number of other classes and gave a series of presentations, including one at TTU’s Black Cultural Center that focused on life and culture in Ghana.
A Center Stage event, the show is free and open to the public.
