COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (July 26, 2002) -- Paula Myrick Short, vice chancellor
of Academic Affairs for the Tennessee Board of Regents, will speak at
Tennessee Tech University's summer commencement.
She will address 366 graduates, their families and friends at commencement
ceremonies to begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 3, in TTU's Hooper Eblen
Center.
A nationally recognized scholar and researcher in the field of educational
administration, Short is an expert in the areas of educational leadership
and organizational change.
She received her doctorate from the University of North Carolina at
Chapel Hill in 1983, and she has held tenured positions at the University
of Missouri-Columbia, The Pennsylvania State University and Auburn University.
In 1993, Short received the Jack A. Culberson Award, given nationally
by the University Council for Educational Administration to the outstanding
professor of educational administration for distinguished contributions
in research within the first 10 years in the professorship.
She served as associate vice president of Academic Affairs for the University
of Missouri System before her appointment to the TBR and has published
more than 70 scholarly articles and seven books, made more than 112 scholarly
presentations and mentored and graduated more than 21 doctoral students.
She is married to Rick Jay Short, a professor of educational and counseling
psychology at the University of Missouri-Columbia, and they have three
sons.
During the summer commencement, degrees will be awarded in 27 undergraduate
fields of study and 13 graduate fields. Students graduating from TTU this
summer will represent 55 Tennessee counties, 10 other states and eight
foreign countries.
