COOKEVILLE,
Tenn. (Sept. 4, 2002) -- Echoing a similar gathering nearly a year ago,
Tennessee Tech University will commemorate the anniversary of the Sept.
11 tragedy with a unity ceremony on the Main Quad.
The community is invited to join students, faculty, staff and campus
leaders at noon on Wednesday, Sept. 11, for the brief ceremony of silence,
song and reflection. Firefighter First Grade Peter Gunther of the Fire
Department of New York will speak to the group.
TTU Student Government Association President Sarah Winningham is coordinating
the event. The ceremony will begin promptly at noon and is not expected
to last very long.
The SGA will give out flags and other patriotic items to participants
who make a donation to benefit local emergency services. Later in the
day, shuttle buses will be provided to "Light Up the Night," a
memorial event open to the Upper Cumberland community at the Putnam County
Fairgrounds.
For more information, call Winningham at 372-3417.
