COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (July 8, 2003) -- Tennessee Tech University alumni
C. Douglas and Mildred Norman recently endowed the Dr. C. Douglas Norman
Journalism Scholarship Endowment at Tennessee Tech.
Doug Norman, a 1952 TTU graduate, was a journalism instructor, faculty
adviser to student publications and the universitys first Public
and Sports Information Director. The scholarship, established for full-time
English-journalism students who are interested in studying print media,
is the second scholarship endowed by the Normans at Tennessee Tech.
In 2002, the couple endowed the William Lowery Craig Memorial Scholarship
to honor the former Maury County resident and TTU student. Craig died
in 1948 while a senior mechanical engineering major at Tennessee Tech.
That scholarship, available to graduates of Maury County high schools
majoring in mechanical engineering, will begin in Fall 2004. Craig's parents
were the late L.A. and Verna Craig of Culleoka. His sister, Mary Haddon
Patterson, resides with her daughter, Mary Margaret Moore, near McCains.
Doug Norman is the son of Vera Reed and Huey W. Norman of Mt. Pleasant.
Mildred Norman, a graduate of Columbia Central High School and a Tennessee
Tech alumnus, is the daughter of Sara and Clarence Waldrop of Columbia.
The Normans now reside in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
The new journalism scholarship is open to English-journalism majors who
have a 3.0 or higher grade point average and attend Tennessee Tech full
time.
For more information on the scholarship, call TTU's English Department
