Fifth Annual Celebration of Craft set for April 5

OOKEVILLE, Tenn. (March 25, 2003) – The Fifth Annual Celebration of Craft will be held at the Appalachian Center for Craft, a division of Tennessee Tech University, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 5.

Admission to the event is free, and it will be held regardless of weather.

Celebration 2003 offers demonstrations in all of the Craft Center studios — ceramics, glass blowing, weaving and textile arts, blacksmithing, jewelry making, woodturning and furniture making.

Other activities will include door prizes at each studio, fine craft sale and 10 percent discount off all gallery items, hands-on craft projects for children, tie-dye T-shirts, silent auction, food by Mama Lea’s Café and live music by the Cluster Pluckers and Abusua, TTU’s West African drumming and dance troupe.

The event is sponsored by the Friends of the Appalachian Center for Craft of Tennessee.

As a volunteer support organization, FACCT — in partnership with the Craft Center — provides educational outreach programs in arts and craft to thousands of Upper Cumberland students in grades K-12.

Proceeds from the celebration directly support educational outreach, and these programs are also funded in part by grants from the Tennessee Arts Commission.

The Tennessee Arts Commission’s Arts Build Communities grant program is providing, in part, additional funding to support this year’s celebration.

To get to the Craft Center, take Interstate 40 to Exit 273, turn south onto Highway 56 and take an immediate left after crossing Hurricane Bridge near Smithville.
