COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (Nov. 25, 2003) — Auditions for the spring production
of Play It Again, Sam — a romantic comedy by Woody Allen
— will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday, Dec. 1 and 3,
at Tennessee Tech University’s Backdoor Playhouse.
Roles are available for three men and eight women.
Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script, copies of which
are available for 24-hour checkout from Playhouse Director Mark Creter’s
office, located in South Hall, Room 225.
First performed at the Broadhurst Theatre in New York City, Play
It Again, Sam has a lively plot revolving around the dating dilemmas
of the play’s unlikely hero Allan, who has eyes only for his best
friend’s wife in spite of her efforts to fix him up with a bevy
of other women.
A New York Times review of the play described it as a “hilarious
and cheerful romp.” The review concluded, “Not only are Allen’s
jokes — with their follow-ups, asides and twists — audaciously
brilliant, but he has a great sense of character.”
Play It Again, Sam is the sixth annual production in the Backdoor
Playhouse’s New Directors Series, and Sean Dietz will direct. The
show will be produced in arrangement with Samuel French Inc.
