Cookeville, Tennessee. (April 6, 2004) -- The composition program and
English department at Tennessee Tech University present the second annual
Festival of Student Writing from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.on Wednesday, April
14, in the Multipurpose Room of the Roaden University Center. The festival
is free and open to the public.
Its an occasion designed to celebrate, showcase, and discuss
students writing and research projects from their English 1010 and
1020 courses, said Tony Baker, Director of Composition and coordinator
of the festival.
The main feature of the festival is the work of participating students,
mostly freshmen, who are on hand to display their work at various booths
and tables. The non-competitive event features primarily alternative texts,
including posters, exhibits, brochures, multimedia presentations, and
performances. Many student projects are collaborative efforts.
Last years festival was just outstanding, and Im excited
to see what the students have developed for this celebration, Baker
said. Visitors to the festival can expect interesting projects,
lively interaction, and some entertaining surprises. Its a rare
chance for people to talk to students about their writing projects.
Immediately following the festival is an awards ceremony for winners
of the Department of Englishs writing contests: the Golden Eagle
Prose Writing Competition, the Freshman Writing Awards, and the Lora A.
Printz Memorial Poetry Prize. The awards ceremony begins at 12:30 and
features students reading from their award-winning work.
