COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (March 19, 2004) – Tennessee Tech University
will present a guest lecture titled “Culture and Personality in
Africa” at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 1, in Clement Hall, Room 212.
Professor Nol Alembong, chairperson of African literature at the University
of Yaounde I in Cameroon, will lead the discussion.
Alembong received a diploma in bilingual studies from the University
of Yaounde I in 1978, a bachelor’s degree in English in 1979, a
master’s degree in African Literature the following year and a doctorate
in African Literature and Civilizations in 1987.
He began teaching in 1991 and served as a visiting scholar in the African
studies program at Indiana University at Bloomington in the spring semester
of 1998. While there, he presented several talks on various aspects of
African civilizations in addition to teaching African literature.
This semester, Alembong is teaching two courses — “Societies
and Values in the West Novel” and “Colonial and Post-Colonial
African Literature” — at the University of West Alabama under
the Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence Program.
Alembong is also the Chief of the Ngieh-Nigm Village in Cameroon.
A Center Stage event, the lecture is free and open to the public.
