COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (March 12, 2004) — Bring canned
foods to any Tennessee Tech University baseball or softball game from
March 17 through 20 and those donations will not only help feed the hungry
— they’ll also be used to “can-struct” a TTU logo
sculpture.
The sculpture will be displayed in the lobby of the Roaden
University Center during the university’s annual Stonecipher Symposium
on March 29 and 30. This year’s theme is “Engaging a Culture
of Service.”
Organizers estimate that approximately 1,000 cans are needed
to create the sculpture.
Collection boxes for donation of canned goods will be placed at the entrances
of TTU ballparks through March 20.
Games scheduled during those dates include:
• Baseball vs. Lipscomb University at 3 p.m. on Wednesday,
March 17;
• Softball double-header vs. Georgia Southern at 4
p.m. on Wednesday, March 17;
• Softball double-header vs. Tennessee Wesleyan at
2 p.m. on Thursday, March 18;
• And softball double-header vs. Morehead State at
1:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 20.
The collection kicks off a major canned food donation drive
— sponsored by a subcommittee of TTU’s Service Learning Committee
— that will continue through the fall.
