COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (May 14, 2004) One of the premier intramural
teams on campus may have to change its name from Woulda, Coulda,
Shoulda to something more positive after becoming the first Tennessee
Tech University intramural team to win a national title.
The team won the 2004 Nike Collegiate Intramural Womens Basketball
Championship held at the Disney World Wide World of Sports complex in
Orlando, Fla. Through the regional and national tournaments, the team
went 22-1, losing only to East Carolina University in a regional game
that went to overtime. More than 300 teams competed at the regional level
across the country before nine teams won the right to compete in the national
tournament.
Our girls played extremely physical, played tough, showed up with
an expectation of winning, said Warren Isenhour, TTUs intramural
sports coordinator who coached the team along with Josh Boynton, a senior
health and physical education major.
After winning TTUs All Campus tournament, the team earned a bid
to the regional competition in Chapel Hill, N.C. At the nationals, the
champs defeated the University of Wisconsin at La Crosse for the championship.
ESPN the Magazine is scheduled to feature the tournament and winners
in its June edition. College Sports Television, available on Direct TV,
will air the game and interviews with players several times during the
next few months.
The air dates and times in May and June are May 14, 7 a.m. and 3 p.m.;
May 18, 8:30 p.m.; May 19, 4:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.; June 24, 10:30 p.m.;
June 25, 6:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
