COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (Sept. 3, 2004) — A guest recital by trombonist
James Box and pianist Oliver Godin will be presented at 8 p.m. on Thursday,
Sept. 9, in the Wattenbarger Auditorium of Tennessee Tech University’s
Bryan Fine Arts Building.
Box is serving in his fourth season as principal trombone with the Orchestre
Symphonique de Montreal and is assistant professor of trombone at McGill
University. Godin has performed extensively throughout Canada and the
United States as a soloist and chamber musician.
“I’m delighted that we’re able to provide the community
and our students with the opportunity to hear world class musicians like
these,” said Joshua Hauser, TTU’s trombone professor. “It’s
especially significant to me to bring James because he’s a Tennessee
native. His success as an orchestral musician and soloist can serve as
an inspiration for our music students.”
The show will include performances of original works for trombone by
Stjepan Sulek, Eugene Bozza, Vincent Persichetti, Sergei Rachmaninov and
Eric Ewazen, as well as Box’s own transcription of three songs by
Ludwig van Beethoven.
A Center Stage event sponsored in conjunction with TTU’s Music
and Art Department, Trombones at Tech and the Tennessee Tech Trombone
Studio, the show is free and open to the public.
