COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (Sept. 9, 2004) – Tennessee Tech University graduate
Richard Perry will present a guest artist tuba recital in the Wattenbarger
Auditorium of the university’s Bryan Fine Arts Building at 8 p.m.
on Monday, September 13.
Paul Thurmond will accompany him on piano, and the program will be free
and open to the public.
A former member of the acclaimed Tennessee Tech Tuba Ensemble, Perry
returns to campus from Hattiesburg, Miss., where he currently works as
professor of tuba at the University of Southern Mississippi.
Perry has been an active clinician and performer throughout the southeast
at various universities and music conferences and has also played with
the Encore Brass Quintet in New York.
He is a member of the Modern Jazz Tuba Project, a professional jazz tuba/euphonium
ensemble from which he has recorded two CD’s and composed several
other CD projects.
Perry is also active in new music and has performed six premieres of
new works for tuba over the past two years.
