COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (April 11, 2005) – The TTU Concert and Symphony
Bands, under the direction of Robert Foster and Joseph Hermann, will present
their final concerts of the academic year Friday, April 15, at 8 p.m.
in the Wattenbarger Auditorium at the Bryan Fine Arts Building.
The evening’s program will feature junior music education major
Nathan Hickman, trumpet soloist, in a performance of Eugene Bozza’s
Rustiques.
Senior music education major, Jennifer Griggs, principal trombone in
the Symphony Band, will perform the final movement of the Derek Bourgeois
Concerto for Trombone, Op. 114b.
Faculty member, Joshua Hauser, headlines the concert on trombone. His
performances of Richard Peaslee’s Arrows of Time and Slide
Ride, a new composition by Tech composer Greg Danner, will serve
as a centerpiece for the evening’s program.
Hauser’s performance of Arrows of Time is the culmination of years
of work. Hauser has transcribed the piece, originally written for trombone
and piano, for solo trombone and band.
Slide Ride, a fast, wild excursion for trombone and band, was
written by Tech composer Greg Danner especially for Hauser and the TTU
band. The extremely fast tempos and active rhythmic patterns create a
fascinating interplay between the soloist and the ensemble.
“It’s an exciting musical experience for everyone,”
says Hauser. “Just hang on!”
Other pieces on the April 15 program include Cajun Folk Songs, Chimes
of Liberty, Hammersmith and National Emblem March.
The concert is free and open to the public. For more information, call
the office of University Bands at 372-3165.
