TTU Craft Center presents jewelry exhibit by Anya Kristin Beeler

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (Aug. 31, 2005) – A jewelry exhibit by Anya Kristin Beeler entitled “Hortus Conclusus: Metals and Mixed Media” will be on display in Gallery One of Tennessee Tech University’s Appalachian Center for Craft through Sept. 22.

Beeler received her bachelor’s degree in textiles and ceramics from Berea College and her master’s from the University of Arizona. She resides in Long Beach, Calif., and teaches at Long Beach City College. The west coast flare of creativity is evident in her work.

“If I could, I would make pieces that were so beautiful, they make people uncomfortable, touching off waves of vague desire,” says Beeler.

Beeler’s neckpieces combine silver, fabric and paper into flexible sculptures with fluid movement. Her brooches line the walls of the exhibition and upon close examination they tell their own individual stories. The work explores themes of beauty, expression and longing.

To get to the Craft Center, a satellite campus of TTU, take Interstate 40 to Exit 273, go south toward Smithville approximately six miles and turn left immediately after crossing Hurricane Bridge.

The facility is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call Gallery Manager Gail Looper at 931/372-3051.
