COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (Jan. 19, 2005) – Tennessee Tech University’s Joan Derryberry Art Gallery will feature traditional African-American heritage through ink drawings and oil and acrylic paintings by Kate Abena Badoe.

The art gallery is located on the first floor of the Roaden University Center and the exhibit begins January 24 and runs through February 18.

Her images combine African art with geometry to create a complexity of patterns, yet with a simple image does she convey the harmonious link between cultures. Her rich heritage helps draw on the imagery to convey the meaning of the work.

She has spent time in Accra, Ghana, as an art curator and sales promoter for several years, thereby drawing inspiration from that experience as an artist.

There will be a reception and gallery talk on Jan. 28 beginning at 4:30 p.m. On February 15, there will be a slide lecture beginning at 3:30 p.m. A Center Stage event, the exhibit is free and open to the public.
